LWV–Salem has seven working groups dedicated to advancing legislation and educating voters on the issues under their purview.

Zoning laws have changed so dramatically in Massachusetts that the housing shown here would not be possible to develop.

Affordable housing

Currently working on municipal and state-wide legislation to promote and preserve affordable housing and protect tenants’ rights.

Education

Currently reviewing the district's school enrollment policies (setting comparability targets for enrollment of economically disadvantaged students) and the variation in English learners across schools (which is not a group with school-level targets). Do EL students receive the supports needed given their uneven distribution across schools?

environment and climate crisis

Developing a fact sheet for our working group on the major environmental issues and efforts already in place locally, to be used as a reference for our group and others.

Gun Safety, Reproductive Freedom and Healthcare, Criminal Legal System, and Voter Services and Civic Engagement round out the working groups.
