As you know, LWVMA previously joined with other members of the Massachusetts Election Modernization Coalition to send the state legislature ideas for how to make the September and November 2020 elections safer while maximizing voter participation.
LWVMA and the Coalition are now endorsing specific legislation: HD.3075, An Act Ensuring Safe and Participatory 2020 State Elections in Response to COVID-19, introduced on Tuesday, 5 May.
Read the Coalition’s press release here. It lists what this legislation will do to make it safer and easier to vote in the fall of 2020, in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Rep. Paul Tucker has co-sponsored this new bill, so please thank him for that. Sen. Joan Lovely’s last email newsletter, sent 1 May, said she was working with colleagues on legislation for early voting and voting by mail, so we hope she will be on board with this newly-introduced act. So please thank Sen. Lovely in advance for her support.
It’s very early in the legislative process, but this time the process will have to move very quickly.
