Cynthia Jerzylo

Candidate Statement: I'm Cindy Jerzylo your voice in Ward 1. Together, we've made progress, but there's more to do: better parking, stronger infrastructure, smoother traffic, affordable homes, and safer streets. On Election Day, I ask for your vote so we can keep building a Salem we're proud to call home.

Top Priorities:

Invest in stronger infrastructure- repairing roads, sidewalks, seawalls and replacing aging water pipes to keep Salem Safe and resilient.

Expand affordable housing options. Increase diverse choices for Salem residents, ensuring families, seniors, and young people can find quality homes at prices they can afford.

I'll keep working with the Transportation Commission to prioritize better traffic flow and make the Resident Parking System simple , fair,  and accessible for all residents.

Walter Morrell

Candidate Statement: As a new father I am deeply committed to ensuring Salem continues to be a welcoming, creative and resilient city. Having lived in both precincts of Ward 1, I know the challenges we face as a diverse community and with your vote my goal is to ensure everyone’s voice is heard.

Top Priorities: While I believe in all that Salem is, I also see the challenges we face, and I believe we need fresh ideas and the courage to tackle them head-on. I want to be part of the solution.

Climate Change: Salem is a waterfront city—we need to protect it. That means investing in green infrastructure, expanding our coastal resilience efforts, and making sure we’re not just reacting to climate change, but preparing for it.

Affordable Housing: Too many of our neighbors are struggling to find or keep a home they can afford. We have seniors squeezed by rising rents, young families priced out of the neighborhoods they grew up in, and unhoused residents who need real support. I support expanding affordable housing options, strengthening tenant protections, and increasing city funding for transitional and supportive housing.

Transportation & Development: We need to create safe, walkable and connected neighborhoods while preserving the character of our city. Potholes on heavily trafficked streets need to be addressed and crosswalks need to be established to link pedestrian pathways such as the Harborwalk. All new developments in our city need to be union-built to ensure we provide strong wages and benefits, equal opportunities and fair working conditions for all.
