Marlene D. Warner
Candidate Statement: As a 23-year resident, my husband and I chose to buy a home, and raise our 3 children here because we love everything about Salem. As Ward Councillor I plan to help my neighbors using my advocacy and nonprofit director skills. I am the most experienced and knowledgeable candidate.
Top Priorities:
Improve citizen and environmental safety: We need to identify and fix all unsafe road intersections, increase streetlights, and decrease impediments to properly reading signage for safety. In coordination with the state EPA, we need to identify and remediate all metal-heavy lands, cemeteries, and contaminated sites. And we should prioritize innovation in environmental solutions and publicize water health and beach erosion sites across Ward 6.
Increase accessibility and wellness: All Ward 6 residents, but especially limited mobility individuals and older adults, should have access to sidewalks, streets, and parks, regardless of how they choose to be mobile. Transportation options must work safely and easily for people (and their families) whether they drive, bike or walk. And we need to prioritize use of parks and green spaces and food access through health-related initiatives in North Salem.
Facilitate History and Community Connections: There is an underrepresentation of the historical significance of Ward 6 and the diversity of North Salem. We can work with our neighbors to raise awareness of its role in the American Revolution and the Industrial Revolution and celebrate one another in our common spaces through organized dialogue and programming.
